Dance Marathon Mission
www.cheo.on.ca

To raise money and awareness for the fight against childhood diseases. Students fundraise to make a difference in the lives of the children and youth at CHEO - all by following one simple mantra: Dance For Those Who Can’t!

CHEO Foundation Mission
www.cheofoundation.com

To further the physical, mental and social well-being of children and their families in eastern Ontario and western Quebec by raising, managing and dispersing funds.

Children's Miracle Network
www.childrensmiraclenetwork.ca

CHEO is a partner in Children's Miracle Network which is a non-profit organization that raises funds for more than 170 children's hospitals. They are the only national children's charity committed to having 100% of the funds raised stay local to support local kids. Children’s Miracle Network is introducing DM across Canada as a way to have fun and raise money for children’s hospitals.

Trevor's Story

Trevor Young
Age:
18 years old

To look at 18 year old Trevor Young with his closely cropped brown curls, beard and mischievous smile – it’s hard to imagine that he’s been on the cancer battlefield – not once, but twice, fighting for his life.
He is saving money for university despite his affinity for the odd ‘impulse purchase.’ “I bought a harmonica today… for no reason,” he laughs, his eyes twinkling.

So, armed with a shiny new harmonica, and plans to attend the University of Ottawa for International Studies and Modern Languages, Trevor starts to share his story – one shaped by cancer, his family and friends … and CHEO.

FAQ

We encourage you to share your personal fundraising page with your friends and family. This will not only be easier for the CHEO Foundation to process, but you will not have to collect and deliver the pledges physically with the risk of losing your donations.

If you do have physical pledges (i.e. cash donation and cheques), you can drop off your pledge forms and money to the CHEO Foundation any weekday between 8:30 am – 4:30 pm.

  • WHAT IS DANCE MARATHON?

Dance Marathon is a movement involving colleges and universities across the country, all raising money for their worthy cause. The students spend time learning invaluable leadership and life skills while raising funds and interacting with representatives and patients from the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). The fundraising culminates with an 6-hour long event where the students stay on their feet through dancing, games and entertainment in celebration of the total amount raised that year.

  • WHAT CAN I EXPECT?

The Dance Marathon is a sit-free event – this means that you are required to dance the night away for a great cause! CHEO has partnered with DNA Presents and York Entertainment Group to bring you an experience like to other. All participants will be eligible to win a variety of prizes based on their fundraising efforts. In order to participate, there is a $20 participation fee to give you all access on the day of the event; BUT those who raise a minimum of $100 will be entered into winning a variety of prizes!

  • HOW DO I REGISTER AND IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT?

A registration link will be available via the website, www.ottawadm.ca, soon. In order to register you must be a minimum of 18 years of age. Please note that there will be no alcohol served on site. For more information on how to register call Vaia Dimas 613.738.3593 or email vdimas@cheofoundation.com.

  • WHAT IS THE MINIMUM PLEDGE TO PARTICIPATE?

Upon registering, you are required to pay $20. There is no pledge minimum pledge, however we encourage each individual taking part in Dance Marathon to reach for the stars and collect additional pledges on their own or in teams. Prizes are awarded based on the top fundraisers so feel free to get as many pledges as you can!

  • WHAT IS A PERSONAL FUNDRAISING PAGE?

Once you are registered, you will have access to your own personal fundraising page to facilitate friends and family to donate easily to your cause! Just simply sign in and make the page your own then share the link.

  • HOW DO I OBTAIN PLEDGES FROM SPONSORS?

Keep it simple. Share your personal fundraising page with your network and let the fundraising begin! If you prefer, you may want to download and print a pledge form from the website. Each sponsor who donates over $10.00 will receive a tax receipt by mail. If you decide to collect physical pledges, please remember to fill out all the information about your pledges on the pledge form and make sure you check off whether the sponsor would like a tax receipt for their donation.

  • CAN PEOPLE WHO WANT TO PLEDGE USE THEIR CREDIT CARD?

Yes, we accept credit cards online. For convenience, please encourage your sponsors to find your personal fundraising page and pay online. This helps keep the transaction safe and secure. You would not want the wrong person to use this information.

  • ARE DONATIONS TAX DEDUCTIBLE?

The Children Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO) Foundation is a charitable organization registered in the Province of Ontario. All donations over $20.00 are tax deductible. The charitable registration number is 11885 2474.

  • HOW DO I GET STARTED?

Fundraising isn’t as hard as it sounds, and fundraising for a great cause is even easier. All you have to do is ask 10 people for $10 and 5 people for $20, and you’ve reached $200 and more!

  • DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE AS AN INDIVIDUAL OR AS A TEAM?

When you register, you will sign up under your corresponding school with your school e-mail account. It is encouraged that you create teams within your school to help keep the spirit of giving alive. Making matching t-shirts or group dances can be a lot of fun. Be sure to make the event your own.

  • HOW ARE MY FUNDRAISING DOLLARS SPENT?

Without your help and generosity of your sponsors, we couldn’t offer the specialized medical care our patients truly need. Your support is essential to the work we do every day. Your gift to CHEO will also benefit future generations through medical education and scientific research. Your hard work will allow us to continue to deliver exceptional care that our kids and youth deserve.

  • HOW CAN I VOLUNTEER?

There will be no shortage in the need for volunteers. If you are interested in getting involved, we strongly encourage you to e-mail dancemarathon@cheofoundation.com to see how you can help.
